Welcome to our ADHD website!

Our family welcomes you to our website which features important information on teenagers who are struggling with ADD or ADHD. Attention deficit disorder runs in both our families, so we have had a lot of first-hand experience coping with its challenges. Currently all three of our children and two of our grandchildren have been diagnosed with either ADD or ADHD. So my husband and I are personally aware children, especially teenagers with ADD or ADHD present unique challenges for parents, teachers and counselors.

Parenting our sons was probably the most humbling, yet rewarding, experience of our lives. Now that our sons and daughter are grown and coping successfully with ADD and ADHD, we have developed this website to share information with other families and professionals. Hopefully, you will learn from both our mistakes and our successes. My family and I bring you a message of hope plus send best wishes during these difficult teen years!

The Importance of Educating Youth about their ADHD! Educating youth about their attention deficits is critically important yet difficult to achieve. A book and DVD combination on the topic of ADHD seemed to be the best option for educating this age group. Not surprisingly, we have found that teens are more likely to listen to their peers in a DVD than their parents or doctor.

Because so few resources are available regarding teens with attention deficits, we have developed several resources that may help other families cope with this challenging condition. Currently three books and three videos plus other resources are available to you from this website. Here are two examples:

Real Life ADHDPreview Video NEW! Real Life ADHD!

We are pleased to announce the release of an exciting new DVD, Real Life ADHD, just for teens, preteens, and young adults. The video features advice from the real experts--30 young people from 12 states ranging in age from 12 to 21. Six of the teens are also featured in our companion guide, A Birdís-Eye View of Life with ADD and ADHD: Perry, Kati, Katie, Erik, Kyle, and Nathan.
Bird's Eye View A Bird's-Eye View of Life with ADD and ADHD: Advice from Young Survivors!
(a companion guide for Real Life ADHD!)

This popular book was released first in 2003. Advice from 12 teens on a variety of ADHD challenges serves as a companion guide for our new DVD. The book cover features our youngest son Alex when he was 16 years old. "Lake jumping" was a favorite summer pastime for Alex and many of his friends with ADHD. Caution: Lake jumping can be dangerous and should be done only under parental supervision.

Chris and our son Alex teamed up to write this book along with twelve other teenagers from all across the country. Written with humor and compassion, A Bird's Eye View offers down-to-earth tips for coping with a variety of issues: disorganization, forgetfulness, being late, sleep problems, procrastination, academics, and medication. Filled with pictures, cartoons, and entertaining ADHD stories, this book is intended to be educational yet still be interesting to read. The bottom line goal for this book is to provide teens and parents with educational information, strategies for coping, plus a sense of hope that they will survive this sometimes overwhelming disorder.
